Political leader and also the Spiritual leader of India Gandhi’s Birthday was observed as “Gandhi Jayanti”. It falls on every year on October 2nd and celebrated all over the India.
Who is owner of Non-Violence?
Second October, 1869 great person Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi was born at Porbandar a coastal town in Gujarat to the Karamchand Gandhi and Putlibai. His father, Karamchand Gandhi had four wives; Gandhi was his fourth wife’s son the former three wives died at the time of childbirth.
Gandhi attended middle school in Porbandar and high school in Rajkot. He studied law in United Kingdom and went ahead to South Africa to practice as a lawyer. His marriage with Kasturba at the age of 13 and a sheer dedication for his mother land.
He lived his life full of struggle as a political and spiritual leader of the India. He is well fame for his non-violence and Truth. He against the Tax on Salt and he made Salt Satyagraha on March at 12th of March, 1930. He started the ‘Satyagraha’ (non-violence) movement for the Indian freedom fight. He was the person of honor who taught the Indian people to make their own clothe to wear. He is very well freedom fighter to India became able to get its freedom on 15th of August in the year 1947.
Who named Mahatma?
Rabindranath Tagore on March 6, 1915, gave the title of Mahatma, Father of our nation to Gandhi. He proved to the world that freedom can be achieved by non-violence. The powerful owner of Truth and Non-Violence Gandhi was shot dead on January 30, 1948.
Gandhi Jayanti Celebration in India
The International Day of Non-Violence of the United Nations is held on 2nd of October as well in order to commemorate the birthday of Mahatma Gandhi. So it is announced as National Holiday whereas every Government offices, post offices and banks are closed. Some of them avoids taking Meat and Alcohol on Gandhi Jayanti. Special event is organized at Raj Ghat, New Delhi where Gandhiji was cremated. Gandhi’s favorite bhajan, Raghupathi Raghava Rajaram, is usually sung in his memory which is a devotional song of Hindus.
Most of the schools in India conduct some kind of competition about Gandhi Jayanti. They conduct competition before the October 2nd and give the prizes on Gandhi Jayanti celebration. Some colleges do social works like cleaning the public places, Provide foods to the poor people who need it.
Celebration places
There are three important places where celebrations takes on October 2nd every year:
o The Martyr’s Column at the Gandhi Smriti in New Dehli where Mahatma Gandhi was shot dead.
o The Raj Ghat on the banks of the river Yamuna in New Dehli where Mahatma Gandhi’s body was cremated.
o The Triveni Sangam where the rivers Ganga, Yamuna and Saraswati come together near Allahabad.
